Summary
1. Put a smile back on their faces, is an initiative under the WomenforWomen Program of the International Society for Plastic Reconstructive Aesthetic Surgery in collaboration with the Aga Khan Hospital, and Muhimbili National Hospital.
2. The campaign focuses on putting back smiles on victims of accidents and gender based violence that have left them not just physically scarred, but also mentally and emotionally. Through the raising of funds that will go to providing reconstructive surgeries to the afflicted parties.
3. Gender- based violence is a national stigma that the government is taking steps to address. Although there aren’t any policies or guidelines to guide gender-based violence, the government has taken measures to lay down strong foundations for the prevention and response to gender-based violence, as evidenced by the several policies and strategies that support gender equity.
4. WomenforWomen foundation has for the past 3 years worked in conjunction with the Aga Khan Hospital and Muhimbili National Hospital towards the initiative of providing reconstructive surgery to victims of accidents and gender-based violence. Victims who have undergone physical violence, abuse, or cases of burns afflicted upon them, that have left them with physical deformities or scars.
5. WomenforWomen charity organization based in the United States of America and Canada, is supported by female plastic surgeons, whose goal is to help women and children suffering from disfiguring or socially excluding injuries and trauma, to continue on living happy and prosperous lives, despite the traumas they have experienced in the past. With an established background for their charity works in various African countries, WomenforWomen partnered with Muhimbili National Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital to further provide their services to victims of accidents and gender-based violence in the country. Muhimbili National Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital, would provide the doctors, facilities and equipment for the procedures.
6. The purpose of this proposal is to help WomenforWomen and its partnering entities raise funds, to further this initiative, through our SADAKA network fundraising platform and create awareness for the wonderful work that these entities are doing. Using our world-class, digital, transparent fundraising tool that can be used by local communities to contribute and raise money from other communities in the country for their own community projects with the support of their community leaders and SADAKA network.
7. This proposal outlines the need to raise funds to sustain this initiative and also create awareness for the same. The goal is to treat as many victims of accidents and gender-based violence, to have a sense of normalcy again despite the circumstances that got them in that situation in the first place.*
